Brick Stain Colours & Colour Matching

Dyebrick can be diluted to produce various shades or may be blended with each other to produce an even wider range of colours, enabling you to match your desired brick colour as closely as possible.

Dyebrick will produce different colours depending upon the original background masonry. The original character of your brick is maintained, though the degree of variation will depend upon the dilution level, or amount of coats you choose to apply.

Please try our sample pots first, to assess the colour created when applied to your bricks and also the compatibility with your brick type.

Dyebrick colours are designed to work with the existing character of your masonry, not conceal it. Each tint is translucent, allowing natural texture and colour variation to remain visible after staining. The original brick colour, porosity, dilution and number of coats will all influence the finished shade.

Why every brick produces a different result

Brick stain is not opaque. A warm red brick beneath a tint will produce a different result from a pale buff or orange brick because some of the starting colour continues to show through.

Absorbency matters too. A porous brick may take up more stain and appear deeper, while a dense, smooth-faced brick may produce a subtler result. Lighting, surrounding mortar and adjacent brick colours can also change how the finished wall is perceived.

For the most reliable decision, test the actual brickwork and inspect the dry samples in daylight.

Create lighter shades by dilution

Each tinting kit can be prepared at its deepest standard shade or diluted to create a lighter, more translucent result. Dilution is especially useful when the required change is subtle or when new bricks need only a small adjustment to blend with older masonry.

Always follow the product instructions and keep a written record of the quantities used.

Blend colours for a closer match

Dyebrick colours can be blended to create shades beyond the standard range. This is useful when matching weathered brickwork containing several tones or recreating the natural variation of an older wall.

Begin with sample quantities, allow each test to dry fully and record the exact ratio. For a varied wall, it may look more natural to use two or three related mixtures across selected bricks than to apply one completely uniform colour everywhere.

Test before buying full kits

Photographs and screens cannot reproduce a finished brick colour accurately enough for a purchasing decision. Sample pots let you assess colour, compatibility and dilution directly on your own masonry before committing to a larger project.

Test in an inconspicuous position or on spare matching bricks. Compare the samples only after they have dried fully, and view them in more than one lighting condition.

Dyebrick tinting products have been used for over 50 years within the construction industry and possess excellent durability when applied to sound brick and masonry. Jobs carried out in the mid 1970s are still performing well to this day.

Dyebrick colour stains should not be confused with standard masonry paints and their inherent maintenance commitments.
