Dyebrick changed the DIY market completely when we developed and patented the first do-it-yourself brick staining kits in the world, drawing on tinting systems our founder developed within the construction industry 50 years ago.
We have been "Tinting bricks since '76"
Every Dyebrick tinting product is manufactured at our own factory here in the United Kingdom. Our kits use earth-based iron oxide pigments combined with a modified pure mineral silicate system developed to create a durable, natural-looking colour change.
Dyebrick is a mineral-based brick colour stain designed to absorb into porous masonry and form a durable bond with the surface. Unlike a heavy masonry paint, it does not hide the natural texture and variation of the brick beneath an opaque coating.
The stain can be diluted to create lighter, more translucent shades or blended with other Dyebrick colours for closer matching. It can be used to disguise mismatched repairs, blend a new extension with an existing building, enhance faded brickwork or transform internal feature brick walls and fireplaces.
Brick staining (also known as brick tinting) changes the colour of absorbent brick or masonry while allowing its surface detail to remain visible. Dyebrick uses finely dispersed iron oxide pigments in a water-based tinting system. Once mixed with the fixing agent and applied to suitable masonry, the stain reacts with and bonds to the surface. The texture of the brickwork or masonry is not altered by this process.
The result is a natural-looking colour modification that remains highly breathable. Dyebrick is classified as Class 1 vapour permeable and has an Sd value below 0.05m.
Completely change the colour of your brick to produce a dynamic new look, adding value and kerb appeal to your home.
It can often be difficult to source the original bricks, even if they are still being made they can be a different colour due to changes in the clay deposits and manufacturing processes. Dyebrick tints can be blended to create a wide range of colours and shades, enabling you to match the brickwork of a new extension to your original house.
New brickwork can be sympathetically 'aged' to match your original period property. You can also blend new repair work to blend with the surrounding weathered brickwork using our 'Soot Wash' replication products.
Because Dyebrick does not alter the physical properties of the brick or masonry, it is ideal for any restoration work and is approved for use on heritage projects.
Start by choosing what you think will be the closest and most appropriate colour to suit your requirements. Dyebrick is not like a paint, so will produce different results depending on the properties of your brick. Please visit our Colour Panels page.
Once you have chosen your colour(s), purchase our sample pots. This is very important, as the existing colour, porosity and texture of your brick will all affect the finished result, so test on the actual surface whenever possible. Each sample pot comes with instructions.
Dilute the chosen colour to produce weaker more subtle shades or blend compatible colours to create a closer match.
The sample comes with a small vial of Fixing Agent. Add this to your final mixed colour solution. Then apply to a test patch area, leave on for at least 60 minutes. The sample area should now be fixed and not come off on your finger when the surface is touched or rubbed.
Follow the supplied instructions to combine the pigment concentrate, carrier solution and fixing agent to the dilution level you used when you first tried the sample pots.
Apply the stain carefully to clean, dry, absorbent masonry. Variation can be created by changing the shade or number of coats across selected bricks.
Make conspicuous replacement bricks less noticeable after repairs, alterations or the removal of doors and windows.
Dyebrick can also be applied to breathable fillers, such as Fillbrick etc. to adjust their colour and blend more seamlessly to the surrounding brickwork or masonry.
Subtle darker shades can also be produced using our Soot Wash - Mild to age the surface to match with older weathered brickwork.
Many customers use our products on their fireplaces and exposed brick walls.
Dyebrick and LimeLike are ideal for fireplaces as they do not alter the physical properties of your brickwork, they are non-toxic, odourless and fire retardant.
Our customer gallery contains hundreds of genuine brick matching, restoration and colour-change projects from homes around the world. Many of these projects have been documented for decades, showing both the range of finishes that can be achieved and how the product performs over time.
